My little angel is six months old today. I can't believe that we were just meeting him for the first time such a short time ago. It feels like he has always been a part of our lives. I love every day with him and love watching as he learns knew things and starts to really explore the world around him.
Colin officially mastered sitting up last Tuesday. He looks so grown up sitting up playing with his toys. His most favorite activity is taking things out of a basket or bucket. We just dump lots of small toys and stuffed animal things into a basket and he takes each one out, examines it, chews on it for a while and then moves on to the next item. This past weekend we got him a bucket of different shaped blocks and he is pretty enamored with those as well. He is very curious and I love watching him make decisions about which toy to pick up and play with. No crawling yet but it won't be long. He has mastered the art of going backwards and also gets his rudder stuck and moves in a circle which is hilarious to me. It won't be long before he figures out how to make forward progress.
The tooth fairy is on her way...SLOWLY. Over the weekend we caught the first glimpse of a white spec on Colin's lower jaw but it seems to come and go. He's not a big fan of the Orajel but it does seem to help and soon enough we'll have our first tooth. I'll miss the gummy smile but am also eager to see what his new smile will look like.
Colin has the sweetest giggle and the biggest grin. Barry loves the crooked grin and watching them play and giggle together always makes me smile. Colin still looks a lot like Barry (although he will argue with me on that point) but I do see more of myself in him now too. Colin can be very serious and focused on things but he is also quite playful and I am certain he will be mischievous before too long.
Erin will be here for another visit over Halloween weekend. She's going to be a witch and Colin is going to be a bear. We are excited to see her and I know she is looking forward to seeing her baby brother. She is such a big help with him. During her last visit I watched her march into the kitchen, wash off a pacifier and sigh. "He dropped it again." She is such a big girl and we are so proud of her.
One last quick Colin story and then I'm back to work and Race for the Cure. Two weekends ago we were working on something in the basement and I had carried Colin downstairs with me for a moment. The washer was running and he became fascinated watching it swish around. He then looked over at the dryer (it wasn't on) and seemed confused. He looked at me and then back at the washer as it swished around again. Then back to the dryer. Then back at the washer. He seemed to be putting together that they looked alike and should therefore be doing the same thing but weren't. It was amazing to watch him figure it out.
Okay, enough bragging about how brilliant the child is.
